Homework Assignment 2
Create a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for your project:
- You only need to do this down to level 2 (or 3 if your so inclined or that helps clarify some higher-level activities). Going to level 2 means start with level 0 (a single node – the name of your project), level 1, the highest-level breakdown (4-8 nodes), and one level below that. You can go deeper at your discretion. (And remember that all nodes do not need to go to the same level.)
- As we covered in class, you can use either a process, product or hybrid approach. For most of your projects I suspect the process approach would work best at the highest level.
- You can use either Excel, Word, or Project. Follow the standard hierarchical numbering scheme for WBS structures. Use a textual description rather than trying to draw a hiearchy diagram (which will save you time now, and may ease importing into Project if you choose to later).
Please think this through as this will become the basis of your final project for this class. Even if you choose to use just the seven classic waterfall phases at top I want the next level to represent factors that are specific to your unique project. No two projects are identical and you’re the PM on this one.
